A 3 Year Old's Understanding Of Death

When Isabella woke up from her nap, I told her the news about Caspian. She cried, "Noooooo!" and, with tears in her eyes, "That means we won't ever see Caspian again just like Gambit." (Gambit, our other cat, died 11 months ago. And because of this, it appears that Bella has a better understanding of death than I thought she would.)

Gabby & Caspian

Gabby is crying about Caspian, naturally. She just told me, "Caspian has always been my pretend prince."

Caspian Died

Robert just called from the vet's, and Caspian had to be put to sleep. He had liver failure and was dying anyway.

I'm in tears.

Our Cat Caspian Is Sick

Our almost-eight-year-old cat, my favorite pet out of all the pets I've ever owned, is very sick. We had an appointment for him to be seen tomorrow, but he was so sick that I was worried he wouldn't make it until tomorrow. I convinced the vet to squeeze him in to be seen today. The news is not good. My husband has now had to take him to their vet hospital branch for tests. If he has what the doctor suspects, it has a 100% mortality rate and I will lose my beloved cat.

I think I'm going to lose my cat, but I am still holding out hope that the tests will find that something else, something treatable, is wrong with him.

Victoria's Portraits 2009

We went to have family portraits taken on Saturday the 31st of January. Normally, we do our own photography for our portraits, but we don't have the space at home anymore and it was less hassle to let someone else do it this time.

I am posting each child's portraits in separate posts, because there are so many photos.

Here are Victoria's portraits.

Baby Smiles

Cameron smiles a lot for us now. I think he's worked out that smiling garners him more attention.

Isabella & Snuggles

Isabella said she was drawing, "Snuggles."

I asked, " You're drawing snuggles?"

She answered, " Yes, BIG ones!"

Later, she drew a "snowman and a girlfriend for him." (We had a snow day.)

Gabby also drew snowmen.

I'm still not sure what snuggles were supposed to look like.

Cameron was having an alert moment, so we decided to get a couple of minutes of video of him.

Snowsuit

My friend Tracy gave us a little snowsuit gift for Cameron shortly after he was born. It was very sweet of her and it has come been really useful because we've had some seriously cold weather here lately!

I took some photos of Cameron in the snowsuit when he was just a little over two weeks old (Dec. 15th).

He was asleep in the photos, so I took some more photos about four days ago (Jan. 12th).

Another Friend's Gift

A sweet friend of mine sent a t-shirt and gift for baby Cameron prior to his birth. Both gifts are really cute! And it was very sweet of her to send them.

The t-shirt is still a little big on Cameron, but the bib can be worn at any size, so a few days ago, I took some photos of Cameron wearing the bib. I've bought these bibs in the past, but I remembered them as being smaller. The bib looks huge on Cameron, but maybe it's just because Cameron is so tiny. Either way, the bib has come in handy because Cameron spits up often.
